Fully Bee Friendly Post Unveiled
With bees in decline, the manufacturer and distributor of high-quality wooden garden products, Forest Garden, has created a specially designed Bee Post to attract solitary bees.
The 6-foot-tall precision engraved wooden post is drilled with holes that meet the needs that solitary species such as Mason Bees or Leafcutter Bees require when looking for a nest. The post has a chamfered top which allows rainwater to cascade away from the holes ensuring that the bees stay warm and dry. What’s more, the softwood post is left untreated to eliminate toxicity that could affect insects using the holes as a nest or resting place.
Forest Garden Head of Marketing, Jenny Davis said: “This is a gorgeous decorative piece that will look at home in any garden whilst providing that essential place for solitary bees to rest or mate. We’ve even included a squirrel marker to designate how far to ‘plant’ the post to ensure that it’s at the right height so that the busy insects can make a beeline for it.
“The majority of Forest Garden products are made using timber that is grown in Scotland and processed at our mill in Lockerbie, so we feel deeply connected to the environment and to the wildlife that is essential for the health and wellbeing of the UK forests. Hopefully, this post will go a small way to support and nurture the bee populations whilst also being a fascinating addition for families to watch nature unfold.”
