Job Summary/Purpose
The delivery of grounds and gardens maintenance and supporting maintenance activities across the Trust’s estate.

Maintenance Gardener
Forward looking and proactive in providing gardening skills throughout the Trust’s estate including maintenance of all types of grassed areas, shrub beds including weeding and pruning, removal of litter and debris, sweeping of hard surfaces, application of herbicides, reinstatement of grassed areas, snow clearing and salting of paths, steps and ramps.
Providing support in the day-to-day provision of a maintenance service ensuring that it fulfils its function effectively economically and efficiently within legislation and guidance standards. The ability to use and maintain relevant hand tools and machinery appropriate to grounds and gardens maintenance.
Main Duties & Responsibilities include
Responsible for the Maintenance of all types of grassed areas, shrub beds including weeding and pruning, removal of litter and debris, sweeping of hard surfaces, application of herbicides, reinstatement of grassed areas, snow clearing and salting of paths, steps and ramps.
Knowledgeable in all aspects of grounds and gardens maintenance within a healthcare environment.
Ability to undertake unsupervised grounds and gardens maintenance work throughout the Trust’s estate.
Carrying out duties covering a wide and varied spectrum of works within own competence and safety limits.
Prepared to learn and practice new basic skills as trained by others with that core competence.
To be responsible for own safety and that of patients, staff or visitors who might otherwise be put at risk.
Standard driving skills to use a vehicle provided for transport between the various locations.
To use whatever grounds and gardens hand tools, equipment, machinery and communication devices provided, to ensure a flexible and responsive service.
Standard keyboard skills, use of handheld computers and wireless devices.
To be responsible for the collection, removal and safe disposal of used needles and syringes found within the Trust’s Estate and in accordance with the Trust’s policy and procedures when a request is made by the Maintenance Manager or his representative.
To maintain a professional and self-contained grounds and gardens maintenance service that constantly strives to support customers.
The grounds and gardens maintenance service requires a flexible approach to tasks whilst achieving flexibility, safe working practice must be maintained throughout the department.
