Proud to bloom for English Tourism Week

Proud to bloom for English Tourism Week: English Tourism Week falls from the 15th to the 24th of March this year and Barnsdale Gardens is proud to celebrate being a part of this exciting sector in our country.

Here in the UK, there are so many wonderfully diverse places to visit, and the team at Barnsdale are very proud to look after the largest collection of individually designed gardens in Britain.

Founded in 1983 by Geoff Hamilton, who was way before his time with regard to sustainable peat and chemical-free growing techniques, Barnsdale Gardens is now the mainstay for gardening lovers who come from far and wide to visit.  The gardens are now run by Geoff Hamilton’s son Nick, who carries on his father’s love of sustainable gardening today.

The stunning 38 gardens each offer a separate oasis of calming beauty, ranging from the tranquillity of the Japanese Garden with its cherry blossoms and zen planting, to the stunningly sculptured Formal Pool and Knot Garden which offers topiary to die for and wondrous water features.

Another wonderful example of garden design which encourages wildlife is the Stream and Bog Garden.  Built during the 1995 series of Gardeners’ World, both the pond and the stream were designed to be easy to construct, effective and able to fit into most average-sized gardens. The use of water encourages pond life and associated plants and insects to thrive, which in turn helps to create a whole new biodiversity within the garden.

The gardens mentioned above are just a taster of the massive array of ornamental gems which can be enjoyed on a visit.  But you can read about all 38 gardens here: Garden

After all that walking, appetites can be completely satisfied at the scrumptious Helenium Tea Room which offers a wide menu including the selection of Afternoon Teas that Barnsdale are fast becoming famous for, with vegetarian and vegan options available.

If you want to learn something new about gardening, painting or even willow weaving there are courses available all year round, all can be booked via the website.  There is also a superb shop and nursery, with many of the varieties displayed in the gardens for purchasing and planting in your own Barnsdale-inspired display at home!
