Celebrating National Gardening Week
Celebrating National Gardening Week
Whether you’re the kind of person who finds mowing strangely satisfying, or you’d rather let your robot lawn buddy roam your garden like a tiny futuristic sheep, National Gardening Week (April 27th to May 3rd) is the perfect excuse to shower your garden with some well-earned TLC.

Celebrating National Gardening Week
The STIGA team, along with expert advice from the Lawn Association, have put together some fun and practical tips to help your garden thrive this May.
1: Don’t Go Too Short!
According to the Lawn Association, mowing season is officially in full swing. But here’s the twist, when the weather warms up, your lawn prefers a slightly longer cut.
Short grass might look tidy, but taller grass:
- Protects the sun from baking the surface of the soils
- Stores more moisture in a larger leaf blade
- Keeps your lawn naturally healthier
Think of it as giving your grass a summer haircut… not a full head shave. And protect it from that sun!
And if mowing isn’t your thing? Let a STIGA robot mower handle it while you sit back and supervise with a cup of tea. The chairman of The Lawn Association stated, “I never thought I would hear myself say it, but I LOVE my STIGA robot mower. This little guy, whom we have called ‘Snape’, is rather marvellous, and he does exactly what I want him to do…and all from my phone! I would never go back to a normal mower ever again!”
2: Take Note of the Lawn Association’s May Lawn Hacks
By May, all that spring hard work should be paying off…your lawn should be looking lush and ready to show off. Here’s how to keep it that way:
Feed again
Especially if you renovated or scarified in March. True Grass is perfect as it also nourishes the soil.
Water wisely
You probably won’t need to water just yet, but keep it in mind if dry weather arrives.
Weeds are still on the move
Keep up with small spot treatments to stop them taking over, or let the mower keep them under control.
Master the art of mowing
This is where your mower really earns its keep:
- Cut at the right height for your grass (20-30 mm for quality lawns, 40-50 mm will allow weeds and flowers to…flower!
- Mow as regularly as possible, as it can help thicken your lawn, for free!
- Change mowing direction to avoid causing a ‘grain’ effect
- Keep your blade sharp (every 2-4 weeks), dull blades affect the health of your grass
- Clean the underside of your mower after each cut (airflow allows the grass to be thrown into your box)
Remember: one bad cut can undo weeks of hard work, so mow smart!
3: Go Green… With Batteries
Who says tech and sustainability can’t work together? STIGA’s 3 Series battery range helps you:
- Trim hedges
- Cut grass
- Tidy flower beds
- Shape bushes
All while enjoying:
- Comfortable ergonomic grips
- Adjustable handles
- Handy charging and wall storage
Less noise, less fuss, more gardening joy.
