DURAPOST® Completes Cotswold Garden

A property in the picturesque Cotswold town of Burford, Oxfordshire has recently benefitted from a complete DuraPost^® fencing system by Birkdale.

The homeowner required a modern and aesthetically pleasing fence that would complement her immaculate garden and require minimal maintenance. DuraPost^® steel fence posts and composite panels provided the ideal long-lasting solution.

Keen gardener and homeowner Michelle opens her garden to the public every year as part of the National Open Garden Scheme. Home to many trees, shrubs and exotic plants, Michelle was looking for a new fence to border her garden that would provide a smart, uniform appearance and work with an existing steel trellis.

“For me, it was all about aesthetics,” commented Michelle. “Timber fencing is fine for a year or two but quickly begins to look unattractive. I wanted something that would look great and stay that way, without me having to repaint it every year.”

Michelle employed Neil Carter, from Carters Fencing & Gates Ltd. who recommended the ideal products. DuraPost^® powder coated steel fence posts with Urban Slatted composite panels and three DuraPost^® aluminium gates – all in sleek Anthracite Grey – were selected. The garden also utilises a number of standard uncoated steel DuraPost^® posts, which have been used to create a second trellis at the end of the garden, providing a softer boundary where the garden looks out over the Cotswold countryside.

Manufactured from cold rolled steel, DuraPost^® posts will not warp, crack or rot over time and can withstand wind speeds of up to 110 mph. This means no maintenance is required. As a result, Birkdale guarantees its powder coated DuraPost^® posts for 25 years.

DuraPost^® Urban Slatted composite panels have a textured, wood-look finish and come in a variety of colours, providing the appearance of timber without any of the drawbacks. Made from a combination of recycled HDPE (high-density polyethylene) and rice husks they are a sustainable option, guaranteed to last 15 years without any maintenance thanks to UV and mould resistance.

“The great thing about the DuraPost^® system is that unlike with timber options, both sides of the fence look equally as good,” added Michelle. “This fact made it easy to win over my neighbours as they too would be getting a great looking new fence where our boundaries join.”

Finally, from an installation perspective, DuraPost^® also has the advantage of being very lightweight. At just 8kg per DuraPost^®, the steel posts can be easily transported. “The slim H-section profile of DuraPost^® makes it a really easy system to handle,” commented Neil. “I can stack more posts in my van than I can with concrete or timber posts, plus, they are less hassle to install.
