DURAPOST® Provides The Perfect Fit For Peterborough Housing Development

Birkdale’s galvanised steel fence post system, DuraPost®, was recently installed at a new build housing development in Peterborough.

The product’s light weight and simple installation were key reasons for its specification in the grounds of all nine properties.

The project, by Regency Contracting Ltd, involved the construction of nine new build houses, which were located in a dense, urban area of Peterborough. Originally, the team were going to install timber fence posts for the boundary fencing, as per the initial specification. However, after speaking to the fencing contractor on the project – Gavin Kennedy, Director of Webwood Ltd – the Regency Contracting team opted for DuraPost®.

Gavin commented: “We had used the full range of DuraPost® products before – from the posts to the gravel boards, post caps to fence capping and we haven’t looked back since. It’s just so easy to install. Plus, there’s an option for everyone from an aesthetic perspective, as there are different colours and combinations of accessories you can put with the post itself.”

The team were immediately impressed. “DuraPostÒ offers a very slim line so you can stack and transport them easily,” commented Giovanni D’Amore from Regency Contracting LTD. “With other options such as concrete, only 10 to 20 posts can be packed into a transit van. With DuraPost®, you can get almost 70 posts in. They are also incredibly lightweight, which will hopefully save us from the long-term problems faced by 90% of fencing contractors – bad backs and hernias. I’ll never use concrete or timber posts again. I would recommend DuraPost® to anybody and everybody.”

DuraPost® is manufactured from cold rolled galvanised steel, a material that is 80% lighter than concrete. However, it is still strong and able to resist wind speeds of up to 110 mph. With this impressive strength-to-weight ratio combined with its slim profiles, it can be carried and installed easily by a single tradesperson. As a result, when compared with other bulkier solutions such as concrete, which can require two to three people to carry and install a single post, DuraPost® is both cost and time effective.

In total, DuraPost® was implemented as part of a fencing system for all nine properties with timber panelling and concrete gravel boards.
