Getting Garden Party Ready For The Platinum Jubilee!

The Lawn Association team don’t usually recommend having anything other than grass draped across your lawn, but this year we will all be bucking the trend in honour of our fabulous Queen Elizabeth II!

Getting Garden Party Ready For The Platinum Jubilee!

70 years of reign by our lovely monarch, means that we are all excited to be celebrating in the quintessentially British way that we all know best…with a good old knees up in our gardens!

But is your lawn up to the royal standard needed for such an occasion?  Read on for some tips!

Pep up your lawn!
For a little bit of a pep up try using True Grass, produced from recycled food waste, which will not only feed your grass but nourishes your soils too. Even after just one week, your lawn should look brighter and greener!

Go with the flow and mow!
For tidy summer mowing, first sharpen the blade and then mow regularly – but just take off the tip of the leaves; this leaves enough leaf to photosynthesise in all that lovely sunshine. And if you allow the cuttings to fall back into the lawn they return valuable moisture to the sward.

Decorate
Apart from the obvious bunting and flags, of which there are many to choose from on the internet.  Why not pot up some red, white and blue blooms to place on the patio or in hanging baskets?  Petunias, Alyssum, Muscari, Lobelia, Verbena and Geraniums are just some of the varieties which will have the hues you need.

And what about after the event?
If your lawn has had a marquee or tent or simply children running around having a great time, this will have taken its toll.  The best thing is first to let the grass breathe again and, eventually, undo any light compaction with some aeration.

But most of all enjoy this long weekend in June and take the time to celebrate our wonderful queen!
