STIGA Digs Into Movember
STIGA Digs Into Movember: This Movember, STIGA isn’t just growing moustaches, but growing awareness. As proud supporters of the Movember movement, STIGA is putting a spotlight on one powerful, accessible tool for boosting men’s mental and physical wellbeing: gardening. Yes, the humble trowel and a patch of soil might be the secret weapon in the battle for better health… and better hedges.
Each November, the Movember movement, one of the world’s leading charities for men’s health, challenges men to grow a moustache to spark conversations and champion causes, including mental health and suicide prevention. STIGA fully supports this mission and believes the garden can be a sanctuary where conversations (and tomatoes) can thrive.

STIGA Digs Into Movember
Plant Happiness, Grow Strength
Research and enthusiastic gardeners agree: gardening is good for the heart, body and mind. A YouGov survey commissioned by STIGA reveals that 75% of UK garden enthusiasts believe gardening reduces stress and boosts mood. Even more, 79%, report a strong sense of personal satisfaction and achievement from nurturing their green spaces. Far beyond aesthetics, gardening is now widely perceived as a therapeutic activity, offering moments of peace and mental restoration.
Fresh air and sunlight help boost serotonin and dopamine (aka nature’s happy hormones), lowering stress and lifting spirits. And with every seed planted and lawn mowed, those endorphins start flowing…who says exercise needs to involve lycra?
Gardening also invites mindfulness. From watering seedlings to pruning roses, focusing on nature’s simple rhythms gives the brain a welcome breather. Watching something flourish thanks to your own care and attention? That’s the kind of mood-boosting achievement no app can compete with.
And let’s not forget the social side, whether it’s swapping plant cuttings, comparing compost, or simply chatting over the fence, gardens grow friendships too.
The Bearded (and Moustached) Believers Speak
Some facial-hair-flaunting gardening friends shared how horticulture has helped them:
Adam Kirkland, Tales From The Potting Bench, says, “Without a doubt, gardening has saved me at some of the toughest times…it alters your brain, allows you to feel freer and not cooped up with your thoughts, I’m forever grateful for that!”
Michael Perry, Mr Plant Geek, states, “I just love interacting with plants and sharing that passion with others. It’s easy to forget how utterly important plants are in our day-to-day lives; we would be nothing without them”
Rob Woodhouse, Solent Garden Services, shares, “I’m never happier than when I am outdoors with my hands in the soil.
There’s something incredibly satisfying about it”
This Movember, STIGA encourages everyone, whether they’re cultivating a beard or basil, to take time outdoors, get their hands a little dirty, and discover how gardening can help grow a healthier mind, body and community.
Because sometimes, planting a seed is just as powerful as growing a ’tache.
