STIGA Donate Robot Mower and Chainsaw

STIGA Donate Robot Mower and Chainsaw: The STIGA team is proud to announce the donation of a robot mower and petrol chainsaw to Birmingham Botanical Gardens as part of its We Care That You Care campaign.

Located across 15 acres, Birmingham Botanical Gardens is a Grade II* listed landscape renowned for its diverse microclimates and rich biodiversity. As one of the UK’s most important historic botanic gardens, the site has remained largely unchanged since its founding in 1829.

This donation comes at a pivotal time for the Gardens, which are currently preparing for major capital development with support from The National Lottery Heritage Fund, Growing our Green Heritage, aimed at restoring the historic glasshouse estate and transforming the Gardens into a leading centre for horticulture, sustainability, and community engagement.

The STIGA robot mower—affectionately named ‘Monty’ by the horticultural team—has already proven to be a game-changer by increasing operational efficiency and freeing up valuable time for team members to focus on vital restoration and conservation work.

“The STIGA equipment is a fantastic addition to the fleet at Birmingham Botanical Gardens,” said Bethan Collerton, Senior Nursery Horticulturist. “We’re preparing for our capital project to rebuild our historic glasshouses, and tools like the robot mower are helping us redirect our time and energy toward that. Sustainability is key to our future, and increasing our use of battery-powered equipment is an important step. The STIGA pedestrian roller mower, in particular, is not only quieter and more environmentally friendly but also delivers an exceptional finish to our lawns.”

The addition of the STIGA petrol chainsaw has also made an immediate impact. Previously, the Gardens had to rely on external arborists for even minor tree maintenance. With the new chainsaw, the team can now manage tree care internally—saving time, reducing costs, and providing opportunities for team members to develop new skills.

“The STIGA petrol chainsaw has been a fantastic addition,” said Collerton. “It’s enabled us to handle everything from felling to clearing fallen limbs ourselves. It’s not just about efficiency—our team is also enjoying the opportunity to develop and apply their chainsaw skills.”

The Birmingham Botanical Gardens team expressed deep gratitude to STIGA for their support. Being part of the We Care That You Care initiative has provided the small but dedicated horticultural team with much-needed resources to better care for the historic site and ensure that these beautiful Gardens are preserved and enhanced for generations to come.
