STIGA’s “Green Talk”: with Sustainability Expert Andrea Frassetto
STIGA’s “Green Talk”: with Sustainability Expert Andrea Frassetto: Sustainable Products, People and Processes at STIGA: in his role as sustainability expert, Andrea Frassetto is the voice of the third chapter of “Green Talk,” the project to discover the company’s innovations for cutting-edge and more eco-friendly garden care.
STIGA, Europe’s leader in the garden care sector, presents the third chapter of its “Green Talk,” a journey into the heart of innovation, technology, design, and sustainability through the renowned voices of industry experts. As environmental and social responsibility represent a priority for companies and citizens, “Green Talk” aims to inspire and educate, offering a unique perspective to explore the interplay between nature and technology.
Protagonist of the third chapter of this journey is Andrea Frassetto. With a solid background in controlling, business intelligence, and corporate process optimization, he is now part of STIGA as Process Improvement & ESG Director, contributing to the company’s sustainable development. With the expert, we could explore STIGA’s sustainability policies and goals related to the production of its garden care machinery and equipment.
“A sustainable approach is the cornerstone of our work – evidenced by STIGA’s membership of the UN Global Compact. – But in order to turn our environmental, social, and governance priorities into tangible successes, it is essential to be collectively committed and for everyone within the company to share this mission. Part of my role is to connect people from different departments, each with specific priorities and goals, by fostering a corporate culture that values and supports sustainable practices. In this way, we ensure that our ESG strategy is not only understood, but also implemented with enthusiasm and sense of responsibility throughout the organization, integrating it into the daily work”
In this exclusive interview, Andrea Frassetto explored the world of garden care through the pioneering vision of STIGA, which, thanks to continuous investment in research and development and a forward-looking outlook, not only aims to offer efficient and sustainable solutions to its customers, but also to inspire the market towards more conscious and innovative gardening solutions. “To achieve this, we work in tandem on three fundamental pillars: Products, People and Processes” explains Frassetto. “As a leader in the gardening industry, we focus on making concrete improvements to our products, including their environmental footprint along the entire value chain, from sourcing recycled materials, to finding supply chain operators who share our sustainable approach, up to the after-sales phase to increase the circularity of our products’ life cycle. Moreover, we are committed to developing the “green skills” of all our employees and are making important steps in the use of energy from renewable sources.”
Among the projects in which Andrea Frassetto was personally involved, particularly significant is the electric transition project, which aims to progressively replace petrol-powered engines with battery and electric motors in all STIGA products, from lawnmowers to handhelds that can be used in gardens of all sizes. “In the design of our products, we take an all-round approach to sustainability, evaluating the benefits we can offer both the planet and consumers. We create greener, silent tools that consume less energy and reduce pollution, emissions, and the need for excessive fertilizer use. Today, electric powered products account for 24% of the total and we aim to steadily increase the quota.”
That commitment is backed up by a major investment in electric products – 76% of the R&D portfolio in 2023 and a dedicated team constantly advancing battery testing and technology – in addition to partnerships with University of Trento and University of Padua on the development of battery life cycle management practices.
The STIGA Group cooperates with several schools, universities, and training institutes worldwide. Training and skills development are key factors for the company, particularly in the field of sustainability, so that all employees can play an active role in STIGA’s ESG strategy. In this context, at STIGA, investing in People is a way of valuing their work.
Through his experience as a sustainability expert, Andrea talks about STIGA’s efforts to strengthen internal processes and procedures aimed at reducing the company’s environmental impact. “We embarked on a roadmap to make our facilities and offices more efficient and low-impact. Looking at last year’s results, we are proud to have used 100% renewable energy in all plants and 96% globally: an achievement made possible by the installation of solar panels on the roof of our headquarter in Castelfranco Veneto, Italy, and which will allow further energy savings in the years to come.”
This is the third chapter of “Green Talk,” the project conceived to tell the first-hand experience of a STIGA expert and the company’s innovations. Looking ahead, Andrea sees an opportunity for STIGA to be recognized for its ability to integrate technological excellence and a green business model, establishing itself as a leader in the design of garden care machinery and accessories that combine maximum innovation with minimum environmental impact.
