Support ‘Movember’ with STIGA
Support ‘Movember’ with STIGA: Whether you have mutton chops on your mower or bristles on your brush cutter, Movember is a time to tickle your tuft for charity. Joking aside, although we all try to have some fun with this annual event, there is a serious point to this campaign which highlights men’s health.
The Movember movement has been raising awareness of issues such as prostate cancer, testicular cancer, mental health and suicide since 2003. The STIGA team have always supported this cause and this year is no exception.
Men are encouraged a lot more to talk about their feelings nowadays, and mental health and the ways in which it can be improved is a modern-day discussion for our society today.
Work-Life Balance
A sensible ratio of work to free time is becoming harder to achieve in the 21st century. Mobile phones, computers, iPads, and the technology that constantly tries to grab our attention, every minute of every day, do not help to calm our jangling nerves either!
A quiet time, even just for an hour a day, can help us to relax. A simple thing such as using a robot mower to cut the grass, can allow us that little bit of relief where we can sit back and just breathe.
Find A New Hobby
Enjoying a new interest can help in numerous ways with anxiety and stress. Lawn care and gardening have been proven to enhance mental and physical well-being. Indeed, growing evidence points to multiple benefits being reaped by a connection to nature and place attachment. These gains can include attention restoration, reduced stress and anxiety, improved mood, and increased personal gratification.
If you are a person living on your own, joining a gardening group or taking on an allotment can also offer the added benefit of social interaction, which can be a lifeblood for positive mental health.
Talk, Talk and Talk Some More
As the old saying goes, ‘A problem shared, is a problem halved’, and this adage is more important than ever as we navigate these often confusing and overwhelming modern times.
If you feel the need to talk to someone, it is often best to choose a family member or friend that you trust. Make sure that you choose a location where you feel comfortable, maybe at home, or while you are doing something you enjoy such as gardening on the allotment for example.
There is no need to suffer in silence, there are numerous places to get support such as MIND, Hub of Hope, MANUP?, Andy’s Man Club
