Putting both tools through their paces in Barnsdale’s notoriously heavy clay soil,

Jon shares his verdict.

First Impressions

Both tools impressed with their beautifully finished ash handles and robust, hand-forged stainless steel blades. Well balanced and comfortable to use, they felt built to last.

Sneeboer Weeding Trowel

Measuring 35cm long and weighing just 240g, the Weeding Trowel features a slender, 18cm blade with sharpened edges and a strengthening rib.

Jon found it particularly effective for removing deep-rooted weeds, including dandelions, docks and sow thistles, with minimal disturbance to surrounding plants.

It also proved excellent for planting tulip bulbs, creating deep, narrow holes with ease. Its versatility makes it equally suitable for planting long-rooted seedlings and cleaning terracotta pots.

Jon’s Verdict: “A simple, well-made tool that’s excellent for tackling deep-rooted weeds and precise planting. It’s one I’ll be reaching for regularly.“

Highly Recommended!

RRP £50.95

Sneeboer Perennial Spade

Available with a 28cm or 42cm ash handle, the Perennial Spade features a pointed, sharpened stainless steel blade designed for digging, lifting and dividing plants.

Jon tested the 42cm-handled version and found its compact design ideal for working in established borders, particularly when kneeling.

It performed exceptionally well when lifting and dividing Pulmonaria, Hosta and Crocosmia, allowing him to separate congested clumps and replant them without disturbing neighbouring plants.

Jon’s Verdict: “A wonderfully useful tool for dividing perennials and working in established borders. Comfortable, well made and compact enough to work between plants with ease.“

Highly Recommended!

RRP £79.95
