Lawn Association – Get lawn ready for the coronation!

The Lawn Association team know that many of us will want to enjoy our gardens on May 6th and even possibly will be having a coronation garden party… we can’t wait for ours!  But what is the best way to utilise our lawns in this way, yet at the same time ensuring we protect them?  

Preparation is key
The Lawn Association always believes that good lawn care involves being prepared and thinking of the next step or the one after that. Pro-activeness is the key to success at lawn care, and getting a lawn into good shape ready for your celebrations means it will be healthy regardless of what the weather throws at it. All aspects of lawn care link up – for example, soil work (aeration) thatch control (pruning with the scarifier) and nutrition. Just one of these alone, and done too late, can lead to more stress for the lawn. So preparation is key!

 

 

 

Mowing
One thing that can spruce up your sea of green, ready to receive party goers, and also to keep it healthy, is mowing. Start your spring cuts with the mower set high,  but slowly lower the height as you increase regularity.  If using a rotary mower your aim is gradually to reach the optimum of no lower than 25mm.

Party on!
Now your lawn is spick and span, it’s time to enjoy the coronation celebrations.  There are some times in life when we should be free and easy with our lawns and just enjoy them!  There is plenty of time to let the grass and soil rest after we have enjoyed all our hard lawn care work!

And what about after the event?
If your lawn has had a marquee or tent or simply children running around having a great time, this will have taken its toll.  The best thing is first to let the grass breathe again and, eventually, undo any light compaction with some aeration.
