The Burpee Seeds Europe team can’t believe that it is nearly time to celebrate our dads again on June 18th! Although many socks and ties are very groovy (we have just seen a Queen rock band sock collection which is simply marvellous!), nothing brings fathers and their offspring together quite as much as gardening and reaping the rewards of seeds sown!
So after spoiling your pop with his favourite breakfast, why not whisk away the cutlery and replace it with a trowel with which to enjoy some great gardening adventures?!
Amuse…with great hues!
Yes, we know that we keep going on about our super duper, bright and breezy new sunflowers, and colourful veggies, but we just can’t help it! There is still time to sow the brand new, gold medal winning Sunflower ‘Desire Red’, and who cares if you don’t have a big garden, this will do just fine in pots on the patio too! The fabulous Aubergine ‘Violet Knight’ can still be sown too. Prolific and easy to cultivate, with an adaptable plant habit, this variety is perfect for mid-sized containers or growing directly in the ground.
Find your dads inner Mr Fawlty with some new BASIL!
BASIL! Yes, we are shouting about it, as we have two new varieties which can be sown at any time of year and will enhance dishes, cocktails and even ice cream (we know, cos we have tried it!)
Basil ‘Batik’ is stunning to look at and even better to eat, it has significant cold tolerance and flowers late in the season, but the autumn show is worth the wait. Whilst Basil ‘Spicy Sabre’ has a distinct spicy taste making this variety perfect for Asian dishes. Even Sybil would approve!
Grow for a healthy treat!
We all want our dads to be healthy, and one way of achieving this is to ditch the kebabs and grow as many colourful veggies as possible. Through growing a crop of flavourful, nutrient-rich vegetables that strengthen your immune system and add vibrant hues to your outdoor area is good for the body and the soul! Planting a garden full of vibrant vegetables fosters a diverse diet loaded with antioxidants and nutrients that support your immune system, while a dazzling medley of varieties such as Radish ‘Royal Purple’ and new Tomato ‘Black Moon’ adds appetizing eye candy to your garden and your salad bowl!
So get your dad into the garden this year for a Father’s Day to remember…ok, ok, he can wear his Queen socks too if he has to!
