New competition to design Peckham garden

New competition to design Peckham garden: New London Architecture (NLA) and Southwark Council have announced a new design competition, ‘Hope in the Square,’ as part of the council’s flagship scheme for the redevelopment of Peckham Square.

Open to architects, designers, artists and other creatives, the design should reimagine and develop the gardens area of the square into a safe, accessible and inclusive space that celebrates youth.

The scheme honours Damilola Taylor’s legacy since his tragic death in 2000, the work of his family and the charity, Hope Collective.

The £7m flagship project is underway, while architects have been appointed to develop designs in collaboration with the community.

‘Hope in the Square’ will be a permanent area in Peckham Square, expected to remain for at least 15 – 20 years.

Six shortlist practices will be invited to develop a design and will be awarded with £1,500 + VAT each.

Submissions close on Thursday 14 August, with the overall winner set to be announced in October.
