STIGA’s “Green Talk”: a Journey into the Green Heart of Innovation

STIGA’s “Green Talk”: a Journey into the Green Heart of Innovation: The discovery of STIGA’s innovations for cutting-edge and more accessible garden care continues in the second chapter of this project with James Cameron, the company’s expert voice on design and innovation.

“Green Talk” is back, the journey into the heart of innovation, technology, design, and sustainability through the renowned voice of the experts from STIGA, Europe’s leader in the garden care sector.

STIGA’s “Green Talk”: a Journey into the Green Heart of Innovation

The protagonist of this second chapter is James Cameron. Scottish-born, with a Masters in Product Design Engineering accredited by the Institute of Mechanical Engineers and a uniquely distinctive background in consumer goods design, James joined STIGA in January 2020 and is now Design and Innovation Director.

During his career, he worked as a designer, consultant, and engineer for several multinational companies, as well as with Olympic athletes, creating technology to measure their performance. In addition, James Cameron has been involved in research and development in the medical sector, with the aim of optimizing and simplifying the interaction between operator and machine. “My profound passion for design and innovation is what has always inspired my efforts and is the ‘fil rouge’ that ties together all my experiences in different sectors. It is this passion, combined with a desire to do my part to positively contribute to the planet through a more sustainable approach, that brought me to STIGA”.

In this exclusive interview, James Cameron explored the world of garden care through his pioneering vision, in which the combination of technology and design is a real driving force for innovation at STIGA. “Today, design and artificial intelligence play a key role, as they allow simplifying the use of a high-tech product, thus making it more accessible to users of all ages without giving up the performance of a state-of-the-art product. AI, for example, can be applied to ‘train’ the virtual assistant to know all service and product manuals. In this way, the less tech-savvy can simply ask the virtual assistant, via voice control, how to solve a problem, e.g. when to change the blades of their robot, how to configure the working perimeter, or how to set the cutting height”.

Among the projects in which James Cameron was personally involved, together with a team of experts in innovation and development processes, the design of the Autonomous Robot Mower was particularly significant. It stood as a symbol of the company’s growing commitment to electric transition and the search for advanced technologies so that STIGA’s innovative, intelligent robot mower would not only be intuitive to use, but also a real “must have” for a healthy and lush lawn.

What makes STIGA’s robot lawn mowers truly unique is the quality of the cut. They are lightweight and equipped with GPS technology, which ensures that the same areas are not cut repeatedly, thus preventing damage to the grass due to excessive stress” – Cameron explains, emphasizing the importance of care for the greenery and not simply its maintenance. “Thanks to the sophisticated integration of modern GPS technology based on STIGA’s patented predictive Active Guidance System (AGS), which ensures the utmost signal reliability, as well as the functionally flexible manageability and the eye-catching top cover in bright yellow-orange, the Autonomous Robot Mower was indeed recognized with the Red Dot Design Award in 2023″.

As an expert in innovation and design, James Cameron has also been involved in the design and expansion of a dedicated R&D space, including an in-house 3D printing center: a facility that proved crucial in the prototyping and testing phase of products, contributing significantly to their evolution and improvement. James’ words thus reflect STIGA’s approach, which constantly makes innovation the core of its actions, demonstrating an ongoing commitment to the progress and quality of its products.

Looking to the future, James envisions STIGA as a leader in the design and production of green care machinery and accessories that integrate ease of usehigh quality standards and environmental awareness, inspiring the entire market towards more conscious and innovative solutions. “Technology and sustainability are the trends driving the garden care sector – and beyond. The challenge is to effectively combine and integrate these two components into corporate strategies to ensure a long-term vision”.

This is the second of the stories of “Green Talk,” the project conceived to share the first-hand experience of a STIGA expert and the company’s innovations, respecting the strong connection between man and nature. At a time when sustainability and environmental protection are increasingly in the spotlight, “Green Talk” aims to inspire and educate, offering a unique perspective to explore the bond between nature and technology.
