Welcome in spring at Barnsdale… …with beautiful gardens & the ‘Geoff Hamilton Afternoon Tea’

Spring has most definitely sprung at Barnsdale Gardens with an explosion of stunning blooms just waiting to show off their attributes to visitors this month.

Wandering around the gardens are a delight in every season, but this month ornamentals such as the following are looking absolutely splendid: Flowering cherries, Leucojum (false snowdrop), flowering currants, heathers, Primula, dwarf Narcissi, Chaenomeles, Pulmonaria, Helleborus & Muscari, to name but a few!

The ‘Rose Garden’ was once an overgrown plot at Barnsdale, it now showcases more than fifty varieties of roses. Clever use of underplanting provides the garden with year-round interest, while the covered seat is the perfect place to enjoy the spectacular sight and intoxicating aroma of some of the world’s most special species of rose.  Looking wonderful this month are the two magnificent flowering cherry trees!

The ‘Japanese Garden’ is looking exceptional this April, split into two distinct halves by a winding slate path, it illustrates two very different styles of garden found in Japan. Each item is meticulously placed as it has real significance within the holistic look and feel of the space.

The ‘Modern Estate Garden’ is the size of an average housing estate garden and was built with a small family in mind. It incorporates a patio, lawn and enough plant features, borders, scree and pergola to interest any keen but busy gardener. This garden too is resplendent at the moment with Pulmonarias and new shoots from shrubs such as Spiraea.

As the Barnsdale team are celebrating the 40th Anniversary of the gardens this year, it was decided that something very close to Geoff Hamilton’s and his sons hearts should be offered … food!

The ‘Geoff Hamilton Afternoon Tea’ has been specially designed for 2023 and will be available from 19th April until 30th September 2023. It costs £50.95 for two,  is served between 3pm and 4pm and must be pre-booked at least 48 hours in advance.

The tea will include plenty of Geoff’s favourites such as:

– A selection of freshly made dainty sandwiches: ham & mustard; egg mayonnaise & cress; cheese, pickle and lettuce; beef & horseradish.
(Vegetarian option: cucumber & cream cheese; cheese, pickle and lettuce; Brie & cranberry; roasted vegetables & hummus)

– Savouries: pork pie; sausage roll; cheese straws.
(Vegetarian Savouries: vegetarian sausage roll; cheese straws and quiche)

– Treats: Mini sponge cake, lemon posset & shortbread, flowerpot choc-chip muffins; cheese scone.

– Served with: Pimm’s or gin & tonic and a hot drink of your choice.

There’s plenty to see and do all year round at Barnsdale Gardens!
