The ‘Barnsdale Gardens Batik Collection’: Barnsdale Gardens is delighted to host a captivating exhibition of batik artwork by renowned textile artist Marie-Thérèse King, on display from 16th to 27th June 2025, daily from 10am to 4pm. Entry is free with garden admission.

Marie-Thérèse is a celebrated non-digital designer whose vibrant textile paintings are inspired by her deep love of British wildlife, especially birds, butterflies, insects, and wildflowers. Using the ancient Indonesian technique of batik, a layered process involving melted wax and water-based dyes on Indonesian cotton, she creates exquisite, nature-infused artworks that bring the countryside to life in bold and intricate detail.

Alongside her exhibition, Marie-Thérèse will also lead a hands-on Batik Workshop on 27th June 2025 at Barnsdale Gardens, running from 10am to 5pm. Priced at £95, the full-day workshop is open to absolute beginners, teenagers, and adults, and offers a rare opportunity to learn from one of the UK’s finest batik artists.

Participants will explore traditional batik tools and techniques, including tjantings, stamps, sponges, and brushes, and will work with procion dyes to experiment with cracking, dipping, and scraffito. The stunning gardens of Barnsdale will serve as inspiration throughout the day.

All materials are provided, along with tea and coffee, garden admission, and a 15% discount voucher for the tearoom.
