Visitors vote for two new Burpee Europe varieties at ‘BBC Gardeners’ World Live’
The Burpee Europe team are pleased to announce that were given the thumbs up in the Visitors Vote at BBC Gardeners’ World Live this year!
This was carried out by visitors scanning a QR code to access a numbered list of the plant entries and simply clicking on the plant that they felt was the best.

The following Burpee bred items were voted top of the seed pops and made it into the top ten!
Sunflower ‘Desire Red’
The brand new, compact sunflower ‘Desire Red’ is so groovy that it has already won a much coveted Fleuroselect Gold Medal, scoring for outstanding innovation, beauty and garden performance. A truly stunning breakthrough in sunflower breeding, this is the first compact red variety suitable for planting or sowing in both beds and borders as well as in larger patio containers.
Basil ‘Batik’
This fabulous new basil will enhance dishes, cocktails and even ice cream. A king amongst basil’s, ‘Batik’ is beautiful to look at and is even better to eat! It has gorgeous burgundy flower spikes and beautifully faintly purple veined foliage. It’s significant cold tolerance, means that it flowers late in the season, but the autumn show is worth the wait!
